CanSkate is a program designed for children of all ages who have completed the PreCanSkate program or have basic skating skills. This program focuses on fun, participation and basic skill development.  Lessons are given in a group format and led by certified NCCP Professional Coaches and assisted by trained Program Assistants.  Skaters progress at their own rate and coaches make session’s active using teaching aids, music and a wide variety of activities that create a fun environment and promote learning.  Once a skater has completed this program they can move on to the STARSkate Prep or CanPowerSkate Programs

 

Equipment required: skates, mitts and coaches recommend a CSA approved hockey helmet with a cage (NO bike helmets)

*There is no skating on Thanksgiving

*There is no skating on Remembrance Day for the 10:15am and 1:30pm sessions

Introduction to Figure Skating

Introduction to Figure Skating is for skaters age 4 or older who are interested in learning the basics of figure skating and have completed the PreCanSkate program and/or working on CanSkate Level 1.  This program is a group program designed for skaters to bridge the development into the ASC STARSkate Prep program.  Skaters will work on their CanSkate stages and receive ribbons and badges according to their progression through the 10 week program.

The program will consist of a 45 minute group lesson with our certified coaches, that also includes fun time and individual practice times where skaters will start to learn how to work on their own, practicing what they have learned in their group lesson.

Tuesday or Thursday: $433.00 | Saturday: $342.00

Saturday  -  On-Ice training only

*1 day per week

* First year StarSkate Prep skaters eligible ONLY

The StarSkate Prep Introduction program offers group lesson instruction that includes all ice and coaching fees. This program introduces the skater to the fundamental skills necessary to begin either a recreational or competitive figure skating career. Participants are evaluated and awarded badges and ribbons for the advanced CanSkate skills on levels 4 through 6.  Open to all ages; however, the skater must be working on a Level 4 badge AND/OR be recommended by an ASC professional coach. Skaters will be encouraged to practice their skills independently, which is an important aspect of the STARSkate and CompetitiveSkate programs.

This program incorporates dryland classes that focus on improving balance, coordination, and flexibility.

  • All StarSkate Prep (formally CanFigureSkate) must attend 2 sessions per week - MANDATORY with the exception of new skaters to this program (first year). Those skaters can choose to skate only 1 session per week.

  • If you are interested in additional group lessons; please contact the Director of Skating for more information. 

  • A CSA approved helmet is required until Stage 5 as well as approval from the Coordinator of the Program/Director of Skating.

  • There will be volunteering and fundraising requirements for this program (skaters skating 2 sessions per week)

  • There will be NO volunteering and fundraising requirements in this program for those new skaters (first year) that choose to skate only 1 session per week.
